Injury Treatment & PreventionHelen teaches one to one Pilates and small private groups. Joseph Pilates invented his methods to both prevent and treat injuries for gymnasts and dancers. Decades later his methods have been adapted for the day to day demands of modern living, they are perfect for those who spend many hours a day sitting or standing or for those who want to counteract or improve sports pursuits.
At the heart of the Pilates method is core strength, the core muscles are the deep-set muscles of the back and abdomen. When the core muscles are strengthened correctly they do their job properly, they undo poor, habitual postural patterns and work in tandem with the layers of muscles in the torso to support the spine as it moves. As core strength develops so does an increased stability throughout the entire torso, the pressure on the back is relieved and the body is able to move more freely. Pilates movements can be performed by anyone, they provide a mix of strength, flexibility and mobility which keeps the body moving and healthy. |
